It’s the smallest of the four main British Virgin Islands, but Jost Van Dyke delivers a full dose of island energy—painkiller-style. I usually hop on the 15-minute ferry from West End, Tortola, docking in Great Harbour just in time to kick off the day at Foxy’s.
Founded in 1968 and still run by the legendary Foxy himself, this beach bar is famous for its rum-soaked parties, live music, and especially its world-renowned New Year’s Eve bash. After grabbing my first Painkiller of the day (mandatory), I pop into the Foxhole Boutique—hands down my favorite shop in the entire BVI. Local finds, good vibes, and no cheesy tourist junk.
From there, my crew and I grab a shuttle and head 15 minutes over the hill to White Bay, home of soft white sand and the most inviting turquoise water you’ll ever swim in.
First stop: the Soggy Dollar Bar, where the original Painkiller cocktail was born. They also serve beach eats if you need a quick bite with your buzz. For lunch, I always wander down to Hendo’s Hideout—a relaxed beachfront spot with killer food, beach games, and the perfect setup to post up for a few hours.
Where to Stay
Looking for an overnight stay? White Bay Villas and Beach Club is it. Set on an 18-acre estate that’s been family-owned for over 40 years, the property has 20 standalone cottages—private, stylish, and equipped with everything you need (including unbeatable sunset views).
More Than Just a Party Island
Jost isn’t only about cocktails and Caribbean playlists. You can hike across the island, rent a Jeep or dinghy, learn about traditional bush medicine from locals, or spend the entire day horizontal on the beach. It’s the definition of a barefoot-and-bikini lifestyle.
