No trip through the BVI is complete without a stop at The Willy T—a legendary floating bar and restaurant anchored in The Bight at Norman Island. Known for its rowdy party vibe, fresh seafood, Caribbean specialties, and the infamous jump off the roof tradition, this spot is a sailor’s rite of passage.

Accessible only by boat or water taxi, Willy T is a favorite stop for charter boats cruising the islands. I got there by riding in with the provisions boat—a local hack that gave me early access before the crowd rolled in. Knowing one of the chef/bartenders didn’t hurt either. Let’s just say, the good times started early.

I had the catch of the day, and it was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you’d want after a salty swim. As the day went on, the dock filled up with boats, and the floating party came to life: drinks flowing, music bumping, people dancing, eating, and of course, lining up to jump from the roof into the turquoise bay below.

Naturally, I had to take the plunge. And what a blast it was. At some point, amid the rum-fueled laughter and high-fives, I remember getting a solid slap on the ass—didn’t think much of it at the time. But fast forward to my return home, and… surprise! A Jolly Roger skull and crossbones tattoo on my ass. Had to dig deep into the memory bank to trace that one back to Willy T.

No regrets. Just boisterous energy, wild views, great food, and better stories.

Willy T: come for the seafood, stay for the chaos.
