The Bight at Norman Island is one of the British Virgin Islands’ most popular anchorages—a wide, protected bay lined with mooring balls and framed by dramatic cliffs. It’s a top stop for yachts, sailboats, and charter crews, offering easy access to two of the area’s best snorkeling spots: The Caves and The Indians.

The Caves are a snorkeler’s dream—an underwater labyrinth of rock formations teeming with colorful marine life. As sunlight filters through the deep water, the experience becomes almost otherworldly. One of the caves even simulates a night dive. I’ll be honest—that one tested the limits of my overactive imagination. I prefer to hover near the entrances, where the water glows, fish dart in and out of coral crevices, and the beauty is still otherworldly—but with a little less adrenaline.

Just around the bend, The Indians—a dramatic cluster of four jagged rock spires—rise straight from the sea. This is some of the best snorkeling in the BVI, with vibrant reefs, delicate corals, and those jaw-drop moments where you catch yourself thinking, Is this even real?

Norman Island isn’t just about the water, though. It offers nearly 12 miles of hiking trails, winding across hills and ridgelines with panoramic views of the surrounding seascape. The island is steeped in pirate lore—rumored to have inspired Treasure Island—and while snorkeling near the caves, it’s easy to imagine ships anchored offshore and treasure buried in the rocks.

When it’s time to relax, Pirates Bight Restaurant and Bar serves up a lively yet laid-back beach vibe. The food’s great, the drinks flow easy, and yes—I had way too much fun in their gift shop. Above the beach, they even offer a spa menu, with open-air treatment stalls for massages and wellness services with an ocean view.

Of course, no mention of The Bight is complete without The Willy T—the infamous floating bar and restaurant just offshore. Between the underwater adventures, scenic hikes, spa time, and over-the-top party energy, The Bight is the kind of place you plan to visit for one night… and end up staying for three.
